Permissions management for Cloud

Overview

The plugin allows administrators to associate specific user groups with different levels of permissions for managing attachments (READ, UPLOAD, DELETE) in the Attachment Fields Cloud view issue panel. The following documentation will guide administrators through the process of creating groups, assigning users to those groups, and configuring permissions in the plugin settings.

Prerequisites

  1. Administrator Access: Ensure you have Jira administrator privileges to manage groups and configure plugin settings.

  2. Plugin Installed: Ensure the plugin is installed and configured correctly in Jira.

Steps to Configure Permissions

First, it is important to note that without permissions, any user of the Kepler - Attachment Fields Cloud plugin can upload, delete, and read (view) files without any restrictions.

This is why we have added this functionality, allowing administrators to restrict user access.

If no permission is selected, there will be no restrictions on the actions to be performed in the field, as a result the user can download, delete and read (view) files without restrictions.

1. Create User Groups

Before configuring permissions in the plugin, you need to create user groups that represent the permissions you want to manage. For example, you can create groups such as Uploaders, Viewers, and Deleters.

Creating Groups in Jira:

  1. Navigate to the Jira Administration section.

  2. Go to User Management > Groups.

  3. Click on Create Group and provide a name for the group (e.g., Uploaders, Viewers, Deleters).

  4. After creating the group, assign users to the group by editing the group and adding the required members.

3. Open the Permissions Modal

When you click the Permissions button, a modal will appear, allowing you to manage and assign permissions for the selected attachment field.

4. Assign Permissions to Groups

Within the modal, you will find dropdowns that allow you to associate the following permissions with the previously created groups:

  • READ Permission: Select groups that will have read-only access to the attachments.

  • UPLOAD Permission: Select groups that will have permission to upload attachments.

  • DELETE Permission: Select groups that will have permission to delete attachments.

Steps to Assign Permissions:

  1. For each permission type (READ, UPLOAD, DELETE), use the multiselect dropdown menus that will show all groups in your Jira instance including Readers Group, Uploaders Group, and Deleters Group.

  2. Select the appropriate group(s) from the dropdown. For example:

  • Readers Group: Select Viewers to give read-only access to that group.

  • Uploaders Group: Select Uploaders to allow this group to upload files.

  • Deleters Group: Select Deleters to allow this group to delete files.

  1. Once you have selected the groups, click the Save button for each permission type to confirm the changes.

5. Save Permissions

After assigning the desired groups to each permission type:

  • Click Save to apply the permissions.

  • A success notification will appear, confirming that the permissions have been updated.

6. View and Manage Permissions

After saving, the modal will show the current permissions set for each group. Administrators can:

  • Edit Permissions: Reopen the modal at any time and modify the group associations.

7. Deleting Permissions

To delete a permission:

  • Select the permission type you wish to remove (READ, UPLOAD, DELETE).

  • Click on the trash icon next to the group in the permission modal.

  • Confirm the deletion in the pop-up window.

Once deleted, the permission will no longer be associated with the selected group.

If no permission is selected, there will be no restrictions on the actions to be performed in the field, as a result the user can download, delete and read (view) files without restrictions.

Conclusion

This plugin functionality allows administrators to efficiently manage user permissions related to attachments within Jira issues.

By associating groups with specific permissions (READ, UPLOAD, DELETE), administrators can ensure that only authorized users can access, modify, or delete attachments.
